Reasons to be grateful for climate action in 2025

Hedge Restoration on the John Muir Way East Lothian Climate Hub.

There’s only four weeks left of 2025: the year that the East Lothian Climate Hub grew, consolidated, focused sharply and impactfully on thematic work, launched numerous successful initiatives, and prepared to become an independent charity.

I am grateful for you and the work you do. With our ELCAN Winter Gathering in Aberlady, on 3 December, there’s an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on all the amazing things that happen within the network. (I’d be grateful if you could attend!)

I am also grateful for our Climate Hub team and those who guide us.

Climate action and team updates

Thank you Jo, who this year brought visions of a thriving sustainable future to schools across the county, encouraged our children to create pieces of art that represent these positive, hopeful visions of possible futures, and then turned this art into a beautiful travelling museum exhibit. All while working with the Biodiversity Collective and working with the East Lothian Hedgerow Restoration group to launch a nationally innovative Hedgerow Restoration Programme.

Thank you Tessie, who passionately curates and delivers our quarterly gatherings and annual Green Futures Festival. 2025 was the best one yet, and we are so excited for the next iteration of the GFF, a number of engagements to launch on 24 January with Building Sustainable Action in East Lothian.

All while building and resourcing a volunteer ELCAN Policy Circle to help our voices to be heard, locally to nationally. This example is being looked at as a way that many Climate Hubs can influence policy on the national level.

Thank you to Tom and Eric, our new Communications and Operations Officers, who have immediately brought new visions, ideas, and energies into our team. To our Board at both Lower Impact Living CIC who have hosted us graciously, our Board at ELCAN who are helping us spread our wings, to all of the other Climate Hubs, the partners we work with, and the organisations that have helped us along the way.

Mostly, thank you. You. The one reading this message. You are part of the movement that we are building together. Together, we are building on the generations of community champions that have come before us. We are thinking globally, while acting locally on climate action in our communities. We are making a difference. You are making a difference. Thank you.
