Biodiversity: Healthy Hedgerows

Hedgerow Workshop

As part of the beginning of a pilot for Healthy Hedgerow restoration, collective knowledge and skills on hedgerows are being built for interested parties across East Lothian.  In February Megan Gimber from the People’s Trust for Endangered Species  delivered a brilliant and inspiring session on Healthy Hedgerows to 45 people from across East Lothian, sharing the importance of surveying and restoring existing hedgerow.

This was followed on by a fantastic and really practical hedgelaying session delivered by Kristian Purchase, East Lothian Council’s Countryside Ranger, for 14 folk across East Lothian to build practical skills which are vital for hedgerow restoration.

This is the beginning of a pilot for volunteers to conduct surveys on the health of our existing hedgerows in collaboration with interested landowners, followed by hedgerow restoration.
