Can shared ownership of renewable energy generate meaningful income for community climate action?
Scotland’s Climate Hubs recently commissioned Regen and Changeworks to investigate whether shared ownership of renewable-energy projects could provide long-term income for community climate action.
The resulting Evidence Case highlighted potential renewable-energy opportunities, costs and possible roles for the Climate Hubs. It also raised important questions about investment timescales, and painted the clearest picture yet of how communities could benefit from Scotland’s renewable wealth.
One role identified was the potential for a National Income Generation Lead to lead a broader exploration of other income streams.
To do this the Hubs have decided to open a tender for the next phase of work. There is a full tender description now on the East Lothian Climate Hub website. The hubs will also be holding an online stakeholder session on 2 July, sharing the findings of this national investigation.
This will also outline the next phase of work, including the recruitment of a National Income Generation Lead and broader exploration of other income streams and would be valuable for any potential candidates as well as those with an interest in the application of shared community energy.
The workshop will share the evidence, explain what has been learned, offer reflections on what should happen next and solicit proposals for a National Income Generation Lead for Scotland’s Climate Hubs.

We invite all stakeholders and those considering applying for the tender. Your knowledge and perspective would be particularly valuable. Feedback from the session and follow-up survey will be provided directly to the appointed Lead and will help shape the next phase of this work.
This online workshop will take place at 12:00 midday, Thursday 2 July 2026, via Teams

Deadline for submissions for tender: 11:59pm, Sunday 26 July 2026.
Please consult the full Invitation to Tender document for details.
The presentation will be recorded, and a further working session is planned for August.
